The 1st Annual Taste of Juneau Food and Music Festival
Juneau is set to host an exciting inaugural event this summer -- the 1st Annual Taste of Juneau Food and Music Festival -- taking place June 11-12, 2011. Experience this exciting new event which will transform Savikko Park into a village of tents and stages, each presenting something different that captures the unique talents of this Alaskan community. With several local acts, dance groups, eating contests, chefs, artists and activities, there will be plenty of entertainment to last the entire weekend. The festival will also feature Phoenix rock band “The Crown Kings” as well as the Seattle pop band “Shoreline Drive,” whose lead singer Devin Damitio is from Juneau. Back-to-back performances will beguile your eyes and ears while local chefs tickle your taste buds and compete grilling Iron Chef-style for the winning dish. This culinary and music festival has something for everyone and is certain to create a long-standing tradition in Juneau.
Saturday will be the main stage day as well as the day that features the main food vendors, such as Tracy’s King Crab Shack, Abby's Kitchen, the Westmark Baranof, Sunshine Smoothies, Garfield's Indian Fried Bread, and more to be announced as the date approaches. A beer and wine garden will be open to honor the tradition of the music festival culture all around the world. Sunday will focus more on family activities, including face painting, temporary tattoos, cooking classes for kids, and the DanceHeads, who will host a visual karaoke-inspired experience in which everyone can take home a DVD of themselves singing their favorite songs.
Both days will be packed with entertainment and food for a sensational weekend of escape from the ordinary.
